In Lex Vitae, I will share my journey as a student of criminal law in the UK. I am a Master of Laws student, captivated by the concepts of justice, morality, and human behaviour that define criminal law. This blog serves as my space to explore the topics I'm learning in law school, focusing on cases, reflecting on legal news, and, most importantly, documenting my growth as a future legal professional.
Why Lex Vitae?
The name Lex Vitae reflects my belief that law encompasses not only rules and statutes, but also a living framework that shapes lives and societies. As a criminal law student, I am drawn to the stories behind cases, the principles that guide justice, and the debates that challenge our understanding of right and wrong. I want this blog to capture the excitement and challenges of studying criminal law.
My Aims
This blog has three core purposes. First, I would like to share some insights from my time at law school. Expect posts about key concepts, such as actus reus or the insanity defence, written from a beginner's perspective, as they navigate complex ideas. Second, I’ll analyse criminal law cases and recent rulings that shape the UK or HK today. Third, I will comment on legal news, from sentencing reforms to high-profile trials, connecting them to what I am learning. Above all, Lex Vitae will document my development, capturing the evolution of my understanding.
My Expectations
I hope Lex Vitae becomes a space for learning and dialogue. I expect to grow in confidence as I wrestle with legal principles and articulate my thoughts. Writing about some concepts that will push me to think critically and clarify my ideas. For you, my readers, I hope to offer accessible insights into criminal law, whether you’re a fellow student, a legal enthusiast, or just curious. I expect to make mistakes—after all, I’m a student! I’m excited to learn from you and share that process openly.
What’s Next?
In the coming weeks, I’ll post about a key concept from my learning and understanding of criminal law, and delve into a case that has caught my attention. I’d love for you to join the conversation! Share your thoughts in the comments, suggest exploring specific cases, or let me know what you'd like to learn more about in criminal law. Thank you for stepping into Lex Vitae.
